The objective of the project was to refurbish the Garden Island Navy Canteens at Building 001 and 051 to meet current compliance standards.

The scope of works involved demolition, new partitions, new ceilings, new glazing and window film, re-coating of the epoxy floor, tiling replacement, re-painting of internal areas, new joinery and kitchen equipment, re-configuration of services for the new layout, replacement of external decking boards, new shade sails, and new outdoor furniture.

The levels of the existing floors were not correct as water run-off was not falling to drainage. To create the correct falls the floor was stripped back, a new screed was laid, and then re-sealed.

During the Pre-Construction site investigations, subcontractors discovered that the existing switchboards and exhaust fans were not compliant. AMA worked with design consultants and subcontractors to specify suitable replacements.
